Accounting jobs and criminal justice don't seem like they should be mentioned in the same sentence. In reality, accountants play a significant role in solving and preventing crimes in all fields of law enforcement and criminal justice. The FBI, IRS/Treasury Department hire accountants. Most people think of special agent jobs with these organizations, however, with financial crimes being so prevalent, accountants are now an integral part of solving cases at these agencies. The FBI actually has a Special Entry program for individuals with a 4-year degree in accounting and for those in possession of their CPA credential. Read more about FBI Accounting Jobs and the Special Entry programs that were created to fill high priority positions at the FBI. IRS Special Agents are part of the IRS's Criminal Investigations division and are the only federal agency with jurisdiction to investigate violations of the Internal Revenue Code.
