A criminal justice degree has become one of the most popular degree programs in the United States due to the vast number of career opportunities that fall under this umbrella. A degree in this field provides a foundation for many different facets of law and criminal justice. In general, courses that you will take toward earning a degree will include: corrections, criminal law and procedure, research methods, criminological theory, statistics, criminology and other related courses. There are different levels of degrees, but generally, once a degree in criminal justice is completed the student should have a solid understanding of the how law enforcement, laws, courts, and correctional institutions all work together.

An associate degree in criminal justice is the most popular of all associate degrees earned in the United States as of October, 2007. The reason this is such a popular degree is that most law enforcement agencies now require some college credit to be considered for employment. In fact, 50% of law enforcement officers now hold an associate or bachelor degree of some sort.
