A large portion of law enforcement agencies are beginning to require their applicants to possess a college degree, at least a 2-year degree. Many police departments are moving in this direction to the discontent of many public public figures. There are already significant shortages of police officers in many areas, primarily the rural parts of the United States and departments that start requiring a bachelor's degree can further limit the applicant pool. Federal agencies already require a bachelor's degree for most law enforcement related positions.
