Online Law Degree

Online law degree programs have provided an opportunity for busy professionals to attend law school without interrupting their current careers. By pursuing a law degree online versus attending a traditional campus based law school you can pursue your educational goals and still receive a very high quality education without sacrificing your career and taking more time away from your family to attend classes.

There are a number of online law schools to choose from, some more reputable than others. No online law schools are approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) and the majority of State Bar Associations do not recognize degrees earned at these schools and therefore the graduate is not able to sit for the State Bar Exam in these states. There are 49 states do not allow online law school graduates to sit for their Bar exams. California is one exception. Graduates of online law schools are allowed to sit for the California State Bar exam.

There is an option for those that graduate from an online law school and desire to practice law in one of the other 49 states. If you are willing to live in one of the states that does allow graduates to take their bar exam, pass the bar exam and find a job practicing law, after a few years you may be able to take the bar exam in another state. Most states do offer this opportunity to practicing lawyers in good standing from other states. Make sure to research this option with your state's Bar Association to determine if it is a viable option later on.

Individuals interested in a legal education but don’t actually want to practice law should enroll in the Executive Juris Doctorate Program. Today's economy puts great value on the skills and abilities that can be derived from a legal education. Knowledge of legal terminology, well-honed analytical skills and the power to persuade are talents that can be employed in a wide range of employment opportunities. Executive JD students are not subject to the statutorily mandated four-year part-time study requirements that are required by California law for the Juris Doctor program. Students enrolled in this program receive many of the same intensive Concord online law degree courses offered in the Juris Doctor program except that they have more flexibility.
