Become a Peace Officer
Peace Officer is an all encompassing term for police officers, constables, correction officers, probation officers, parole officers, sheriffs, marshals and deputies. Peace officers within a given jurisdiction, in most cases, have an equal authority.
Becoming a peace officer with a law enforcement agency will require different qualifications based on the state you live in. What is common is that applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have no felony convictions. Educational requirements vary by law enforcement organization and state. For instance, In California there is no set minimum educational requirement for a peace officer, however there are some law enforcement agencies that require college credits or a bachelor degree and they pay more money. To become a Texas peace officer many Texas law enforcement agencies require an associate's or bachelor's degree. In order to become a peace officer in most states you will be required to hold a peace officer license or be license eligible.
