About 1400 SJPD officers patrol their assigned territory with in the Department's jurisdiction responding to accidents, directing traffic, investigation crimes, collecting evidence, escorting officials, and basically maintaining the peace in the city of San Jose. The San Jose Police Department requires applicants to be between the ages of 21 and 70 years old, a U.S. citizen, 40 to 60 quarter college units (Associate's Degree), valid driver's license, not to have been convicted of a felony or domestic violence issue in California, have at least 20/40 uncorrected vision and pass an intense background investigation and physical testing. Earning an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree will help you meet the education requirements. Being able to speak a second language fluently is not required but is a good skill for applicants to possess.
