According to indeed.com, the average annual salary for unarmed security guard job listings in the U.S. is $19,000 and for armed security guards the average annual salary is $33,000. As you can see from these salaries it definitely pays to be in possession of a firearms license or permit. It may also be worth your while to investigate earning at least an associate's degree and pursuing a career in law enforcement where you may find better salaries and benefits.
