How to Become an Alabama Correctional Officer

On May 18, 2006 the commissioner of the Alabama Department of Corrections released an action plan to respond to the problems plaguing the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC). The Action plan addressed 4 different issues, one of them being personnel shortages, especially at the correctional officer level. There is a shortage of 444 correctional officers. The Alabama Department of Corrections wants to hire 450 new correctional officers a year to compensate. Also, the ADOC wants to cut down on attrition by paying young correctional officers more money, this means you have an excellent opportunity to join one of the most well respected department of corrections in the country.
