How to Become a Maine Game Warden
Maine Game Wardens work for the Maine Warden Services, which falls under the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Maine Game Wardens are considered law enforcement officers in the state of Maine and are charged with conservation law enforcement, public education and search and rescue responsibilities. The Maine Warden Services is the second largest law enforcement agency in the state of Maine with all the modern necessities needed to apprehend individuals, analyze evidence and help prepare prosecution.
Becoming a Maine Game Warden is a very competitive process and those applicants that can set themselves apart with previous law enforcement work experience or college education will make themselves stand out as the more qualified candidate. An associate or bachelor degree in criminal justice is a common degree that law enforcement officers to possess.

Qualifications to Become a Maine Game Warden
To become a game warden one should have a great deal of knowledge regarding fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. You must be willing to work alone in remote areas and be open to relocation to any part of Maine. You must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or have completed an associate's degree and be 20 years of age or have at least 60 hours of college credit prior to attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, possess a valid Maine driver's license. Applicants must have taken and passed the ALERT (emergency response training) and the physical fitness test. Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications move on to the written examination, then an orally administered Board Exam. Applicants who are selected will the take a swim test and go through a very thorough background investigation prior to any job offer. (Source: Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife)
