How to Become a Virginia Game Warden
Game Warden positions with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are very competitive. The department receives many applications for very few positions and though many departments are struggling to recruit individuals to this career, it is the lack of qualified applicants that plagues each department. Review the minimum qualifications below.
1) Applicants can set themselves apart by holding a college degree or earning a college degree prior to applying. commonly held degrees are Criminal Justice Degrees, Law Enforcement Degrees, Biology Degrees and Environmental Science Degrees.

Virginia Game Warden Qualifications
To be considered for employment applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, must be 21 years of age, possess a GED or high school diploma, a college degree or related work experience is preferred, must have a valid Virginia driver's license, pass an intensive background check, be of good moral character, not have been been convicted of a felony or domestic violence misdemeanor, vision must be 20/100 correctable to 20/20, must be available to relocate to any part of the Virginia common wealth, must be able to swim 50 meters and stay afloat for 10 minutes, applicant must live within the jurisdictional boundaries of assigned territory, work nights, weekends and holidays.
Virginia Game Warden Duties
This a law enforcement position and related responsibilities apply. Virginia Game Wardens enforce fish, wildlife and boating laws. Game wardens also promote wildlife and natural resource education to youths and adults. Game wardens patrol their jurisdiction, will apprehend violators and present findings in court. These are just a few of the duties a Virginia Game Warden will perform. Other law enforcement related duties do apply with regards to community and enforcement of laws.
Virginia Game Warden Salary
According to the Virginia Department of Game an Inland Fisheries is offering starting game wardens a salary of $30,146 to $40,095 a year depending on education and related work experience.
