Real Estate Paralegals' job descriptions and duties vary depending on the law firm, real estate agency or title company they work for. This is a general overview of a real estate paralegal's function in leasing, residential and commercial real estate businesses.
Under the supervision of their employer, Commercial and Residential Real Estate Paralegals assist in reviewing title reports, preparing leases and closing documents, assist attorneys in closing of sales, purchases, leasing and financing transactions. In some cases real estate paralegals will work the entire transaction from initiation of contracts through closing and others may specialize in closing or other areas of complex real estate transactions.
Useful skills for real estate paralegals to possess include: knowledge of financing, lease negotiation and lending documents and procedures, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work on real estate transactions from the initial contract through the closing, and work with minimal supervision. These necessary skills are taught at paralegal schools in some form or another and will have a greater emphasis in those programs that offer a specialization in real estate.

The job outlook for paralegals is expected to grow 27% or more through 2014 according to the US Dept. of Labor. Opportunities for advancement are plentiful for those who work hard.
