Paralegal Programs and Training in Arizona
Prospective paralegal students should consider attending Nationally accredited online or campus based schools offering paralegal programs or one of the five American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal programs in Arizona to assure themselves of a quality paralegal education. These programs offer courses that will teach students practical paralegal job skills as well as provide legal theory education. Curriculum will commonly cover legal research, ethics, contracts, torts, and related fields.
Things to Consider When Choosing a Paralegal Program
"Our paralegal assistants are required to have a bachelor's degree and we consider previous work in the legal field a plus. Consider getting an internship at one of your local law firms while earning your degree to gain valuable work experience." Suggests Catherine Barnes, a Human Resources Manager at one of the largest law firms in the Western United States.
A bachelor's degree is not required by every law firm in Arizona, however some type of paralegal training and work experience is desirable. Most law firms do desire previous work experience in a field of law that the firm focuses on and therefore entry-level paralegal positions at the higher paying firms can be hard to come by. Hiring managers have suggested that students should intern at law firms, real estate and title companies or similar places of business while earning their degree. In many cases, these internships can lead to employment after graduation.
When speaking to schools about their programs, confirm they offer student services that include academic counseling, financial aid, career counseling, and job placement services. These should be common at any ABA approved program or Nationally accredited school offering a paralegal program, but be sure to check.
