Paralegal Programs in Connecticut
The state of Connecticut has no regulations in place for paralegals in regards to education or licensure. There are some guidelines that suggest paralegals should proactively pursue continuing education to maintain a "high level of professional competency."
There are five American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal programs in Connecticut and a number of non-ABA approved programs offered online as well as campus locations throughout the state. ABA approved paralegal programs carry a legitimacy and prestige in the legal community. Often the ABA approved programs will have more expensive tuition than non-ABA approved programs due to the school's costs to seek and maintain approved status. Read about ABA and non-ABA Paralegal programs. Research all your options prior to making a decision.

Recommended Things to Consider When Choosing a Paralegal Program in CT
It is important to research what potential employers look for in the paralegals they hire as well as what the market is looking for in general. Our research has found that in Connecticut, larger firms with branches in multiple states will often require a paralegal certificate and an associate's or bachelor's degree in addition to work experience in the legal field. Employment data suggests that smaller firms, government agencies and single lawyer practices will often hire entry-level paralegals.
Look for paralegal programs that offer student services such as academic advising, career counseling and job placement. There may be a program of interest in a neighboring state, so take the time to investigate these programs as well if they interest you. Look for programs with national or regional accreditation recognized by the United States Department of Education or an ABA approved paralegal program. There are no online paralegal programs approved by the ABA at this time.
Gain work experience at a law firm, attorney's office, real estate company or government agency while earning your degree or certificate. This legal field work experience can count toward an employer's requirements.
