Paralegal Programs in Delaware

Delaware has a voluntary certification for paralegals through the Delaware Paralegal Association. The Delaware Paralegal Association intends this certification to promote a higher standard of education and professionalism as well as to encourage paralegals in Delaware to pursue continuing education. Again, this is a voluntary certification and requirements for the Delaware Certified Paralegal title includes work experience and a variety of education options to qualify for the exam.

Consider This When Choosing a Paralegal Program in Delaware

One of the most important things you should do prior to choosing a paralegal program is to inquire with any potential employers as to what their requirements are for hiring paralegals. Employers do not require their paralegals to have certification in Delaware, however choosing a paralegal program that meets the Delaware Paralegal Associations qualifications will assure that you have the opportunity to pursue certification in the future.

Typical paralegals in Delaware will conduct research for projects, write motions and pleas as well as aide attorneys with trial preparation. The majority of law firms do not want to spend time and money training entry-level paralegals to do these tasks that are pretty standard for any paralegal that has a year of experience under his or her belt. Most large law firms will require their paralegals to have at least one year of work experience in the legal field, preferably in an area of law that the firm is involved in.
