The American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) is the national authority in paralegal education and has some specific guidelines that students should consider when choosing a paralegal program. The AAfPE recommends selecting a paralegal or legal assistant program that is either, American Bar Association Approved, a program offered through an AAfPE member school or a program offered through a school that has been accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. The AAfPE also consider a qualified paralegal to be one that holds an associate's or bachelor's degree with a concentration, minor or major in paralegal studies or a post-baccalaureate certificate or a master's in paralegal studies.
There is only one ABA approved paralegal program offered in New Hampshire and only three AAfPE member schools offering paralegal programs in New Hampshire. These programs may be geographically limiting for some students so an online program could be an alternative. There are a number of online paralegal programs offered in New Hampshire that are accredited by accrediting agencies recognized by the US Department of Education. Find out about all of these options below.
As mentioned above, membership in the Paralegal Association of New Hampshire (PANH) as well as certification through the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) have some education eligibility criteria that must be met. Go to the PANH web site to learn more about their membership requirements (www.panh.org). Learn about NFPA PACE exam eligibility.
